Oblique imagery is captured from the air pointing towards the horizon, instead of traditional aerial imagery that points directly down. This additional layer of visual data helps provide BOPLASS councils with the ability to better discern features in the landscape, particularly vegetation.
In conjunction with aerial imagery it provides more accurate mapping of wetlands with less disturbance to the environment. Particular value has been achieved through the overlay of existing wetland data to assist with the identification of changes to the landscape.
Oblique imagery also helps provide improved data for reserve management, ecological advice, or consent applications, with the imagery often assisting with early compliance checks.
