BOPLASS welcomes the recently appointed Chief Executive of Bay of Plenty Regional Council–Toi Moana, Fiona McTavish. Prior to local government, Fiona spent 20 years in and around central government in Wellington including general manager roles in education and health. She has also worked in the private sector as an international consultant and general manager for the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. In mid-2018, Fiona was appointed to her current role as Chief Executive of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. Fiona held the role of General Manager Strategy and Science at the Regional Council for more than six years, with responsibilities that included statutory and non-statutory natural resources planning and policy, regional economic development, transport planning and delivery, science, and Maori policy development and engagement. Fiona holds a Masters in Regional and Resource Planning and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. She is also a Resource Management Act accredited Commissioner. She has extensive training through the Institute of Directors and has been consistently recognised with leadership awards during her career. Fiona has chaired national level working groups and boards and filled a number of trustee roles.
